We were commissioned by an English builder in 2003 to survey and provide planning drawings for the conversion of a derelict stone barn in France.
The barn is located in Couture, a delightful farming hamlet located to the west of Poitiers.
The barn was in a dilapidated state, with holes in the roof, but with great potential for conversion.
One planning condition was that there should be no increase in the ridge height or change in fenestration.
The conversion sought to retain the provincial French vernacular of the barn, whilst providing a comfortable retreat away from the stresses of the modern world.
The work involved liaising with the Ordre Des Architectes in Poitiers to obtain the necessary building permission and authorisation to commence work on site.
Work commenced in 2005, but unfortunately the practice was not involved in this stage of the project.
