NEW GLAZED SCREENS
CONTRACT SUM : Total Cost: £26,325.00
CONTACT TYPE / PERIOD : JCT Minor Works Contract / approx two months
The Great Barn is an oak framed, Grade 1 listed barn dating back to the C16th and part of the Michelham Priory complex of buildings. Apart from it’s historical interest it is hired out as a function room by Sussex Past. The problem in the winter months was that the main doors needed to be kept closed and this made the space dark, there being no windows. The most appropriate solution was to install glazed screens in stained Douglas Fir, in contrast to the historic oak and elm fabric. The screens were prefabricated off site, and installed within two weeks to phase in with a wedding reception. The work was joinery orientated, and some of the work involved the scribing in of oak infill pieces, to suit the profile of the existing oak frames.
