Contract type / period : N/A / Dec 2007 – December 2009
We were approached by a local builder to design a self build house on a small site in Seaford in 2002. The site had experienced a difficult planning history being a ‘brown field site’ in the middle of a residential area but was eventually granted permission in 2003 provided it was single storey to relate to the other bungalows in the vicinity. The ‘L’ shaped, two bedroom house, was largely self built and features an open plan lounge / dining / kitchen area, and a mono-pitched zinc roof, with clerestorey lighting in the bathroom and hallway. The former is lit from above by a bank of roof lights which are electrically operated. The client’s love of Frank Lloyd Wright also came to the fore with some FLW stained glass panels in the main entrance door.
