Restoration of Bells
Project: Restoration of Bells
Contractor: Whitechapel Bell Foundry, London
Contract Sum / Type: £15,452.00 incl vat / De Minimis
St Pancras has three bells dating from C1350 to 1420, the two eldest bearing inscriptions to St Anne and the Virgin Mary.
The second and third have the mark of Walter Wimbis and these are among the few examples in Sussex of this itinerant bell-founder.
Work included the renewal of the wheels, as well as full restoration of the bells, stays, sliders and runner boards.
The Whitechapel Bell Foundry is the oldest manufacturing company in England and dates back to 1570.
