The brief was to design a garden room for relaxation and to exploit the views over to the local church to the south west.
The site was problematic due to it's low lying nature with underground streams, and the fact that the substrata was predominantly clay.
This was solved by using a concrete raft on a piled foundation, and building a retaining wall, behind which french drains help to disperse water around the site to the rear.
A trapezoidal plan, cut at 45 degrees, frames the view to the church and aluminium curtain walling helps to maximise light levels, as well as exploit views to the west.
A large double window takes in views of the garden to the rear and a rooflight helps to add to the northern light.
The roof structure was formed by using cranked steels, and the roof itself is clad in lead to match the existing front porch.
